C2 Radio Speaker?

Just finished searching the Archives for information about radio speaker restoration. Didn't find what I was looking for, so here's a post.

I would like to have my original '65 radio speaker restored/reconed. It functions, but sounds a little rattley. I seem to remember a post that provided information about a guy who recones/rebuilds 6X9, 10 ohm speakers.

Can someone a name and contact information? Or should I box the original and spend $30 for a replacement?

buy an aftermarket(usually 20 bucks) and box the oriiginal. speakers on c-2's aren't easily judged and i doubt any judge can see thru the grill perforations.mike

A good judge can look up from underneath and verify the unique shape of the magnet housing on a C-2. Speaker reconing is not expensive, and advertisers in "Hemmings" offer the service. I have used Jackson's speaker service in the past, but I don't have the contact info handy.

Some question whether or not the matching xformer on repro speakers is as good as factory originals and since you have your original, why not go have it re-coned? A perenial favorite is The Speaker Shop in Colorado Springs, CO (719) 475-2545. Their web site used to give a hint and say "Mo sent me" when you place an order to receive a 10% discount. Not much, but it'll defer freight costs...

I'll second that company. They did a good job for me in the past and very resonable and fast also.

I used Jackson Speaker Service in Mich. 517-789-6400. He did a good job and quick turn around. Mike
