I am replacing my half-shaft U-Joints. Any suggestions on greasable vs nongreasable? Also, is it a good idea to change the driveshaft ones too? I was thinking about using SPICER. Any ideas or prferred suppliers?
If you are looking for "originality" there are American made non-greaseable ones #231 available from PRO Auto parts (For a '67, assume they are the same for a '76) These are "look-a-like" to the originals. They are made by FEDERAL-MOGUL under the name PRECISION UNIVERSAL JOINT. NAPA may also have them.... however they have combined greaseable with non-greaseable in their inventory so you may not get the correct ones......at NAPA. I found that SPICER did not look the same......for '67 BB
The half shaft u-joints are interchangeable for all 1963 to 1979. However, the driveshaft u-joints are different for 63-67 versus 1976.
The Spicer Lubed-For-Life type joints, which are the type originally used for all 63+ Corvette applications are now configured COMPLETELY different than the originals. These are the ones you get if you purchase from GM, too.
The grease fitting type that are made by Spicer and others do have a configuration otherwise like the original joints (except for the grease fittings, of course).
I'm not familiar with other non-grease fitting types available in the aftermarket. Delco sells a u-joint that is of "other than Spicer" manufacture, but I believe that these have grease fittings.
