    72 Part Nimber halp

I need some help in finding the part number of the Engine Starting procedure sticker that was glued to the inside of the drivers side sunvisor.

    Thanks in advance.

    You ever find one?

I do not know the number and rarely have seen one. Even I, the label guy, would love to have one.

      Dave and Patrick-----

Well, as a matter of fact, there were THREE different "stickers" used. Early 1972 used "no sticker, at all". Later, the sticker was added and was of GM #6263563. Later yet, it was changed to GM #327568. Now, don't ask me to tell you when these changes occurred; I have absolutely NO idea.

With one exception, I can tell you that none of these parts was EVER available in SERVICE. If something happened to your visor sticker you were just out-of-luck. The one that was available, though, was the very early one----that was the "no sticker, at all". That one you could always get. You can get it now and, I expect, you'll always be able to get it in the future, too.

        Joe,
As always thanks. Apparently the passenger cars and Corvettes were the same. I just bought a Canadian glovebox package from a passenger car for my literature collection and there was a loose sunvisor label # 6263563 in the package. Apparently the owner removed it early on as it has adhesive residue on the back, but otherwise the label is in "as new" condition.
I'm curious why the 3rd style label would have a 6 digit part number(327569) and the 2nd style label has a 7 digit number. ????? I always thought all the later parts were 7 digit.
        Patrick,

I'll get a fax to you so you will have the size correct. Send me the proper # via email. If you want a copy of the 1st version then ignore this message.

          Dave-----

About 1972, GM started to run out of 7 digit part numbers. The Chevrolet-assigned part numbers of the 39XXXXX series was getting to 3999999. They were not ready then to switch to an 8 digit series. So, they went back and "scrounged up" any earlier series of part numbers that had never been used. It so happens that they found a significantly large block of SIX DIGIT part numbers in the 3XXXXX and 4XXXXX series. These were assigned to Chevrolet and became the series to which MANY parts of the 72-78 period parts were numbered from. About 1978, or so, GM instituted the 8 digit part number series. Then, the "part number crisis" was over. A VAST NEW pool of numbers became available and they haven't exhausted it to this very day.

I believe that board regular Art Armstrong was involved in the early 70s "part number reclamation project" for GM.

I had a 327586 dated 11-23-71 at Bloomington all you had to do is ask and you would have had the picture. Lyle

              Bring it to Carlisle.
I look forward to seeing it.

I seem to remember an early label had a date of July something. I have only seen one of these on the judging field. Research for the revised Judging Guide also has reported 6263563 and no date. I don't know about that one; it could have come from another car line.

                  Reba,
The #6263563 I have from the passenger car has no date on it, just the part number. I had a 3400 mile 72 car w/ a VIN in the 12,000 range that had a label on it but my records are incomplete as to part number or date.
