Looking for info about which camshaft Chevrolet used when the 69 L88 went to open chamber heads and pistons. P/N 3925535 560/580 is listed as "early" L88 which is the same as the 68 closed chamber or P/N 3959180 580/620 which was used in the ZL1.

Re: 1969 L88 camshaft
Steve,
I'm pretty sure the 3925535 was the only cam that GM installed in 68-69 L88 engines, including 2nd design open chamber L88 in for 69. The parts book agrees, listing the 525 for L88 and the 3959180 as being used in the AL ZL1.

Re: 1969 L88 camshaft
Mike, I agree that the 535 cam was the only cam listed in the parts book but for some reason there has been speculation for years that the second design cars did receive the 180 cam. I would sure love to know the answer too.- Top

Steve-----
I don't think that the 3959180 camshaft was ever used for any L-88 Corvette that was sold in PRIDUCTION. Whether some SERVICE engines might have used it, I don't know.
The camshaft used for 1967 L-88s was GM #3879605. It's possible that this was used for early 1968 L-88s, too.
I have conflicting information relative to 68-69 L-88s. Variously, I show the GM #3928909 and the GM #3925535 being used for 1968 and 1969 L-88 applications. The 1967 GM #3879605 was discontinued from SERVICE and replaced by the 3925535 in August, 1968.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 L88 camshaft
The 3879605 cam was indeed used in early production 68 L88's. If I remember correctly, it was almost the first two months of production. Somewhere, I have the engine assy date when the change was made.- Top
