Continue having problems with my '58. It's very strange because this is an on again off again chronic situation. Brake lights work...then they don't work...then mysteriously staring working again. Have changed brake switch several times....problem goes away for awhile....then starts again. I don't know...I'm not an electrical man. Any expert thoughts out there?

Re: C1 brake lights - problem
I think this is almost for sure caused by your directonal switch. The brake light is also routed through this switch. Does the directional handle centers correctly? It should do since this can cause the switch to be in a 'undefined' status. Otherwise try to replace the complete switch, this should solve your problem for sure...

Re: C1 brake lights - problem
The t/s switch problem usually manifests itself with one or the other brake light not coming on, but with the lever in the right (actually wrong) position, it can affect both brake lights. It is important to know whether the signal lamps work when the brakes lights fail. If they do, the problem is under the dash. If not, then it may be a ground. Check the brake light switch first to see if there is voltage on both sides. If not, the switch is bad. If you do have power on both sides, and the signal lights work, then the t/s switch is probably the culprit.- Top
