    77 engine compartment

I have the engine and transmission out of my 77 and want to paint the frame, fire wall, ect. before I reinsatall them.
I need to know what products are acceptable to do the job correctly for all under hood components.
Also, I need to know the correct finish of the following parts, choke tube, egr valve, intake air heater shields, vacuum actuator for heat riser, heat riser actuator mount, distributor clamp and bolt and brackets for the spark plug covers.
The car is very orignal and I want to make it as close to historicly correct as I can.

Five additional years for this project.

"Well, while I have this out of the way, I can ..."

I would start with a scrub brush and warm soapy water. You might find it is much better than you think. Then go up the cleaning agent list, like Simple Green, and so on. If it is as original as you say, find all the markings this way first.
