c2 1965 trans date

I need help in decoding this transmission date P 04 09 . The trans main case housing # 3551325
I think it might be 1965 ?? Also is there any good ref manuels on identfing tranmission dates and casting#'s

Could also be 1964, depending on ......

......... where the P0409 [April 9th] is stamped -- if on the maincase sidecover machined lower-rear-corner tab, it's a '64; if vertically stamped on the passenger side rear maincase flange, it's a '65 production maincase. Also, if the top-middle-rear maincase bolt boss is rounded on the forward end (like the bottom bolt boss), this is also a sign the case was prior to Dec '64; after that, the top boss was larger and square (towards the front).

Don't know of any books that get into this detail. I suppose if NCRS ever starts judging tranny numbers, then this will be mentioned in their guides.
