    C2 ammeter

The ammeter on my C2 does not register much of a charge, if any even though my alternator is charging. I cannot find any of the suppliers or rebuilders that seem to do anything with ammeters. Has anyone had this experience and found the solution. Thank You, Bill

    Re: C2 ammeter

Sounds normal to me. Immediately after starting (assuming the battery is not run down) it should show a significant charge for a few seconds and then settle down to a needlewidth or so above zero.

A high continuous charge can mean a discharged battery or a shorted cell.

The ammeter is not a true ammeter. It's actually a differential voltmeter that uses the voltage difference between two points in the system as a surrogate for battery current. Since system voltage is maintained by the regulator in the range of 13.5-14.5 there should be a slight charge current to the battery even if it's fully charged.

If you pull the three pole connector from the alternator (which disables it) and turn on some accessories, the ammeter should show a signficant discharge. If that's the case, the ammeter is probably okay.

Thank you Duke for the response. I will try the things you suggested. Guess this condition is normal.
      Thanks again, Bill
