eBay - C3 Idle Solenoid Bracket and Clamp

I've been searching for the idle solenoid bracket and clamp for sometime now. This eBay listing is selling the solenoid plus a NEW bracket and clamp. I checked with the eBayer and the bracket and clamp are not NOS.

Can anyone tell me if the bracket and clamp are correct (I've never seen one)?

If correct, then who's repro'g the bracket and clamp?

      Pat-----

You don't mention your application and it makes a BIG difference here. There were THREE different bracket configurations used depending upon engine application. All Corvettes during this period with Rochester Q-Jet carbs (small block and big block) used a bracket and clamp that constituted the complete bracket assembly. These were GM #3940915 (bracket) and GM #3940917 (clamp). Cars with L-68 used GM #3940916 (bracket) and GM #3940918 (clamp). Cars with L-88/ZL-1 and M-40 used bracket GM #3967426. They used clamp GM #3940917, the same clamp as used for cars with Q-Jet.

The bracket assembly pictured in the eBay item is a "reproduction" of the 3967426 bracket and 3940917 clamp. The bracket looks fairly authentic, but the clamp doesn't look right. However, I'm sure that they are 100% functional. The solenoid is the correct SERVICE solenoid and the only one that was ever available in SERVICE. It was discontinued quite a few years ago but I wouldn't describe it as "rare"; the solenoid comes up on eBay fairly frequently.

As far as I knew, none of these brakets or clamps were currently reproduced, although, apparently, the "3967426" and "3940917" are being reproduced, correctly or not.

So, the short of it is, if you have an L-88 or ZL-1 WITH M-40, then the item in this auction is what you need, functionally, at least. If you have a car with Q-Jet, M-40, and C-60 and WHICH ORIGINALLY USED THE IDLE CONTROL SOLENOID, you could use the clamp and solenoid from this auction, but you would still need to find the bracket.

The Q-Jet brackets and clamps are really not too rare as they were used for other Chevrolet applications. However, the L-68 and L-88/ZL-1 brackets/clamps are VERY, VERY, VERY hard to find. It looks like, though, the L-88/ZL-1 guys have a "reproduction" now.

Joe, I have purchased the identical solenoids from Standard/Blue Streak. Under $10.00 last one I purchased

he's well known in the COPO Camaro crowd

If memory serves me correctly, the seller is Jim Stubbings from Heartbeat City. It's a high end Camaro shop - They're reproducing the Z28 crossram intake with GM's license! He also owns at least one ZL1 COPO camaro - yes it's original! I've bought several sets of aluminum heads from him, didn't like one set, he took it back RIGHT AWAY with no grief or hassles.

Nice guy! Even tracked down a carb I needed.

Jim also has the largest supply of honest-to-God real NOS and good used original 1st-generation Camaro parts on the planet; also believe he took "Pricing 101" from J.T. Piper

                    Joe,

I'm hunting this same original assembly for my 69 SS 396 L/78 Camaro project.
Can I ask you to clarify a few things on this bracket/clamp/solenoid?

                    a) Is this the same solenoid assembly used on the 69 L/78 THM400 engines

                    found in Camaro, Nova, Chevelle?
                    b) Would you ( or another member here ) happen to have these "original"

components where-by images could be posted?
                    c) What was the original solenoid part number? Ever see one available?

                    Steve

                      Steve----

Yes, the GM #3967426 bracket and 3940917 clamp are the same pieces used for 1969 with L-78 and THM-400. I do not have any of these pieces in the collection. It's just not the sort of thing that's ever really interested me.

The original solenoid used in PRODUCTION was GM #1114418. This piece was never available in SERVICE. The SERVICE part was GM #1114421. I think the solenoids were the same; I don't know why the difference in part number.

The '69 Camaro anti-dieseling bracket shows in the '69 Camaro assembly manual as #3959167; uses the #3940917 clamp and #1114418 solenoid Joe mentioned and a #121887 screw and #606404 washer. Shown in UPC M40, Sheet A10.
