    Trim Parts

has any one had problems with back orders from trim parts. are they real slow making some parts? every time I call they push the date back a month on the production of some parts that are on back order.

    Lyndon,

Trim Parts should move to Backorder Michigan so all three can be in the same town and cry the same tune.

Trim Parts have dozens of things backordered for months and even more than a year.

    Sorry for the rant!

Yep, I'm currently waiting on a set of tail lamps which are on backorder. Frustrating when backorders hold your project up.

Try Keen Parts. He started repopping the tail lamps and a bunch of other stuff a few years ago, and his quality beats Trim Parts.

For tailamps, its' not too difficult to romofe the metal socket from the diecast part, and them have the originals replated. About the same cost as a reproduction.

            Bill,

I considered the replating option, but I couldn't get any one to take the job. These are pot metal and unless they are dang near perfect to start with, removing the pitting will run the cost well past the price of the repop price. Another factor is trying to plate the female cavity. It's tough for small shops to throw enough current into the bottom and get a good job. A special electrode in needed and most will not take the time to build it.

I bought Trim Parts from Wilcox a couple years ago and am pleased with the quality. I imagine with the market upturn, people are now spending/buying more parts and it's hard to keep up with demand.

              Re: Tail lamps

The pot metal is an issue, the secret to throwing the chrome into the bottom of the housing is the removal of the metal socket from the back of the housing. The plater then runs his anode thru the cavity in the housing and out thru the hole, throws into the cormers very well that way.
