I have a 1966 427 coupe and I am thinking about putting on a set of bolt on knockoffs thay are 6" wide. I would like a taller and wider tire than my standed size. but I dont want them to hit the frame or the fender. Dose any body know the best size.
going both taller AND wider is going to run you into problems. If you go wider you need to drop the profile down a lit to try and keep the overall diameter the same.
my neighbor has 235/60-15 on his '67 and they look great. He says he gets no rubbing at all altough on CAC and CF people say that 235's will cause rubbing problems.
I want to get new tires with the bolt-on KO's also on my '65 and was hoping to go with the same size or maybe drop down to 225/60-15's if I need to.
I think the wider look of the 235's look better than the standard 205/70-15 "replacement" size most people put on. currently on my car from when I bought it last year are 215/75-15's and I get a slight amount of rubbing on the front frame at full lock but none on the fenders.
It's virtually impossible to find a "taller" tire than the standard 7.75X15's 27" diameter that will fit without rubbing due to width; wider is possible, but not by much. With the stock rim offset, 215/70 is about the practical limit, and is VERY close - may still rub at full lock bump situations like entering a driveway.
