C - 1 Differential #s

I am replacing the differential in my 58 - front seal leaks badly - the diff I got from a friend has cast - G297 3725899 GM23 and AA804 stamped. Can somebody decipher the code for me?

The case was cast on July 29, 1957 and is a non-posi unit. It was assembled on August 4, 1957 and it was originally been installed in a 1957 passenger car with 3.55:1 ratio.

Other than a leaking pinion seal, is there anything wrong with your existing differential????????
If that is all that is wrong with it, why not put a new seal in it? Provided that it is the original rear to your car, it seems that it would be a better idea to keep it.

I have a 58 that I believe was a race car and ot has a 61 posi housing with the 58 standard diff. I am making a driver and got a good diff at less than it would cost me to have the seal replaced.I am keeping the 58 as well.
Thanks for the idea though.
