    1967 L71 fliame arrestor/ coil capacitor

Need some help with the flame arrestor and a coil capacitor application on a 1967 L71.A few years ago I took my car for regional judging. I had a flame arrestor and a coil capacitor installed. As you know there is a cut out for the arrestor in the base itself. As well as a mount for the screw for a capacitor. The judge told me the arrestor and capacitor should not be installed and deducted the appropriate points.I checked my judging sheets for verification.
Fast forward to yesterday when I finally saw a friends all original 1967 L71.It is an untouched original in pretty poor shape but EVERYTHING on this car appears to be untouched. He purchased the car from a well known high level NCRS judge. You know whats comming, it had the flame arrestor installed on the air cleaner base and a capactor mounted on the coil bracket.Same one I have 4 round depressions on the top and GM stamped in two places on the metal ring. The capacitor appears to be the same as well. Can anyone tell me with some certainty if the flame arrestor and capacitor installation is correct for judging or not. Thanks for any help.

Louis - According to the '67 Corvette TIM&JG the air cleaner base outlet for non-A.I.R. equipped L68 (400hp) and L71/L89 (435hp) engines does not have a metal spark arrestor. (1967 Corvette TIM&JG, 4th Ed, p.101- top of page, 2nd paragraph).

"Radio equipped cars have a cylindrical aluminum capacitor ................." (See page 108 of the 1967 Corvette TIM&JG, 4th Ed.)

    That what's "correct" for judging.

BTW, the 1967 Corvette AIM I have seems to indicate that the UPC L71 (L68) section should have SHEETs A6, AIR CLEANER & CRANKCASE VENTILATION, and A7, HOOD DUCT; but my copy does not have either of these SHEETs. Perhaps someone else's '67 AIM has them as a review of the A6, SHEET or SHEETs might provide additional information on the of the flame arrestor as the flame arrestor when present on other air cleaner bases is "called out."

Louis - I found my other 1967 Corvette AIM (you can't have too many of them) and it has pages UPC L71 (L68) SHEETs A6 & A7. UPC L71, SHEET A6, V-8 427 ENGINE 3 X 2 AIR CLEANER & CRANKCASE VENTILATION does not show or call out a flame arrestor for the air cleaner base. Pete
