I was asking earlier about cleaning a corroded tank on my 82 vette, but I discovered it has an internal bladder. I called a vette graveyard and the guy told me he had one. I told him the reason I needed one was because I thought the bladder was broken and causing the gas to come in contact with the metal. I figued that was were the rust was coming from. He said that if the bladder was broken gas would leak out. Does anyone know if this is true.

Re: Internal Gas Tank Bladder

Not as far as I know. I believe that the outer steel tank is a sealed unit, just like a conventional steel-only tank. However, as I mentioned in my earlier post, I'd remove the sender/fuel pump/fuel pick-up assembly before assuming that the tank is bad. That unit could be the source of the corrosion. Also, it is possible that the corrosion in your tank might have been EXTERNALLY introduced into your tank from a load(s) of gas from a corroded fuel storage tank at a gas station. Your fuel strainer would filter out the aprticles from entering your fuel pick-up and they would just remain in the tank. If that's the problem, and it may very well be, then all you need to do is flush the tank out.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
