    1962 heater switch

    Hello all

I just had my heater switch for my 62 vette rebuilt. I hooked the wire from the harness to one side of the switch and the other side to the heater motor. There was also a ground wire from the harness that I connected to the switch Bezel. The clock works but when I try the heater switch, nothing happens.Seems like there is no power to the motor. Is there supposed to be some kind of resister connected to the switch? Is the heater motor unit supposed to have it's own ground wire? I need to make sure I have things right.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks....John

    John,
The heater motor grounds through the bowden cable that opens the heater water valve. It has to be connected to both the clock console plate and the water valve. There are a couple of things to look for if it is hooked up and still not working. One common problem is that the fan motor assy has a real good coat of fresh paint on it and the mounting screws have not cut through the paint to attach it to the fan housing. The other common problem is that the foam gasket is installed on the wrong side of the heater control valve plate, insulating the fan motor from the valve. If this is the case, no need to take it all back apart, just remove the motor and install a self-tapping screw inside the housing so that it goes into the valve mounting plate and electrically bonds the two together. You can follow the path with an ohm meter and find exactly where you lose conductivity. If you dont have a multi-meter, then just make up a long wire and attach it to a good ground and then touch it to each section of the heater until it starts to work. That will identify where you lost the ground.

    Regards, John McGraw

      Thanks for you help......John

        Hi John

I found the problem. It was that I need a better ground. But also I took the motor out and connected it to a battery. It took a couple touches to get the motor turning. I'm wondering if because the motor was not used in a long time if it was stuck. Once I spun the fan and touched the battery terminals, it worked.I connected it all back up and it works great.

        Thanks for your imput.............John
