    63 radiator

I have just tried to install my new repro radiator from Dewitts. The radiator that I'm replacing is also a correct repro with the correct part number and date code, however it appears to be brass/copper. (the car has Top Flighted twice with this radiator). It began to leak so I thought it would be a good time to upgrade to aluminum. The problem is that I could not get the top shroud bracket bolt holes to line up. It seem as if the Dewitts was a bit higher than the old rad. I measured the height of each core and found the Dewitts was 16 and 15/16th and the old one 16 and 10/16th, the Dewitts was over a 1/4 inch higher. My rad support looks original and unmolested as do all other components, and I confirmed that the radiator was properly seated with the proper rubber bumpers. Any ideas before I call Tom on Tues.? Thanks

    Re: 63 radiator

Jim - I have an aluminum randiator from Tom DeWitt for my 67 and since it is not installed (installed in the closet ) I just meaured it for you. It is 16 11/16" tall, basically 1/16" more than your brass copper. Not anyweres close to the extra 4/16" ( 1/4") you measure. Sounds like yours is too tall unless for 63 a different rad was used but I think all midyear small block rads were the same other than maybe the bracket on the top etc.....Craig

BTW - I have had this stored for about 4-5 years....so it is not his recent production runs....Craig

Thanks Craig, sounds like I have a wrong/oversize unit for some reason. I was hoping to make it to a local charity car show on the 4th but thats history now. I have not found any records for any size variations for this part number. Again thanks so much for taking the time to check your unit. JIM

Two original rads measure 16-11/16", incl...

...top and bottom plates (maybe even add another 1/32nd). This is from a 65F and a 66M.
