Hi, I have read the back issue with the article on replacing the dash inset and it says to cut the inset as it will be too big. I bought the inset from corvette central and it does not seem too big. Am is missing something. Also I am concerned about the wrinkles when you assemble the bottom chrome strip. Any ideas on how to not get wrinkles and what caused the wrinkles. Thanks in advance Susan

Re: c1- 1958 dash inset
hi John, the bottom stainless strip that holds the insert in - is what I was talking about. The corvette restorer article referred to a ridge that it snaps onto and too much pressure causes wrinkles. My strips are very hard to shape and snap back on. Did anyone use epoxy or weld to hold it together? Is there anyway to add support to the back of the insert so it wont bend during re assembly. Thanks alot Susan- Top

I put an insert in my 59. I did not trim it at all. It did fit snug. I spot welded the stainless back on with a small MIG welder, however I know a lot of people use glue. I think either will work. You have to be careful, as the aluminum is fragile.

Hi Sue
I took the easy way out with mine. I sent my old one to Corvette Central and they install the new insert with the stainless all on and sand blasted the main insert backing. Once I got it back, it went in snug and fit perfectly.
