Happy 4th!
First of all, I'm a C2 guy, not a C3 guy. Maybe I'm just not up to speed with the C3 here. I was digging through a box of old Corvette insignia, emblems, etc. that I've accumulated over the years. And I found two of these:
p/n 3963196 GR. 8.055 DECAL
They appear to be stick-on black vinyl, and when I hold them up to the light, I clearly see "L/88" through the protective paper. Going to the old parts book, the description shown is "69 Corvette w/H.D. (427) (exc. alum. cyl. and case) Ornament, hood (L88)". All that seems to make sense.
But I've seen a couple of '69 L88's in my lifetime, and I never recall seeing any L/88 decal on the hood. "427" in chrome letters certainly. But as I recall, true L88's were sort of the stealth bombers of their day - no insignias. I've gone through my library, and I can't seem to locate an image of this decal in use on any C3 hood.
So, did '69 L88's have L/88 on the hood? If not, what have I got here?
Pete
