    C5 Tire Question

Does a change of tires at 28,000 miles sound normal. I'm looking (long distance) at 2001 that's the color, etc that I want but new tires at this mileage seemed odd. Is it?
    Thanks

    Re: C5 Tire Question

This seems to be pretty normal. I have a 2001 with the original tires at 33K miles. They are shot and probably should have been replaced already...and they were babied to get them this far. Alot of guys don't get anywhere near 30K miles. I don't think replacement, by itself, means anything bad.

Based on the anecdotal evidence I've seen I'd say 25-30K is about average for the runflats and 20-25K for the Z06 tires.

Some of my friends have indicated that the tires getting reasonable irritating noise-wise by the late teens or early twenty thousands.

What you do have to look out for is excessive oil consumption. There was a problem with the rings on a percentage of 2001s. Many were reringed at GM expense. Try and get a maintenance record print out on it if possible.

I got about 25,000 miles on the Goodyears on my `99. The noise was terible. Changed to Firestones and when I sold it with another 40,000 miles the tires still had a lot of tread and still quiet.

take the VIN to a GM dealer and he can run

a check on his computer to see what service been done to the car at the GM dealers
