Prep and Paint of 65-66 Steel Wheels..

Need to refinish some original 65-66 steel wheels. Any thoughts on dipping vs media blasting as well as paint vs powder coat.

    Thanks

Powder coat will crack under pressure so you will need to not have it under lung nuts. Also the wheel weights and hub caps will knock off the powder coat. I would use DB 90 primer and then paint them.

How much where you going to pay to have your wheels powder coated? Find a shop to prime and paint your wheels.

                  eeGads..man Buy yourself a $19 paint gun

from harbor freight and go to local paint jobber for the material. Even a elcheapo air compresser will drive this setup. You should know by now that Corvette restoration is a hopeless disease that can only be treated with tools, tools and more tools to faciltate the end product...

Besides, it's much more fun to do it yourself..

                  good luck,

Yep...ya make a valid point. I just gotta figure out how to get all my wife's and kid's stuff out of MY garage for all those tools...

                    Thanks

                      Re: Tools.....

Jim, I suggest you have the wheels inspected to ensure they are not bent anywhere, especially the rims. This will help with the balancing process and help to have the weights installed on the inside.

                        Re: Tools.....

I know just how you feel Jim. My wife and 4 kids seem to believe they have equal billing in my garage too. We've got clothes, toys and stuff that hasn't seen the light of day for 15 years packed away out there.

I finaly gave up this summer and started to build me a 30 X 60 metal building out back. This will hopefully provide much needed space to get serious with completing my restoraion project. I've got the floor down now. The building will be up in about a month. I can't wait!

good luck on your end too,
                        tc
