I have a reproduction antennae mast. It unscrews from the base just above the surface of the body of the car. I want to replace it with an original antennae mast but the original does not seem to come apart at any place. The mast seems to be continuous with the base which is continuous with the wire and I don't want to replace the entire thing. (someone suggested splicing the wiring but apparently the reception is much worse). Does anyone have any knowledge, suggestions etc. Thanks.

Re: 1972 antennae
Melissa,
The major difference that I know of between reproduction and original antennae is the size of the ball at the top. I believe the reproduction antenna has a ball that is slightly smaller than the original antenna. Either antenna should unscrew from the base without disturbing the base at all. I can check the details of my original 70 antenna for ball size and mast height this weekend if you need those to compare to your "original".Tony- Top

Re: 1972 antennae
The mast of an original 72 does un-screw from the base, of course. There are two shoulders or masts on the base of the antenna that is designed for a wrench to allow it to be removed, such as when putting a car cover on it. Does your mast base have the flats for a wrench? If not, you may have a repro mast and cable.- Top
