    Vintage 57 Photo

I bought this car in 86 from a lady who bought it in 64 who bought it from the original owner.

The original owner sent me some vintage photos..and the one below is really great.

This car in 1990 was the 1st Bloomington Survivor 57!

It still retains its original 283/245 4-spd. drivetrain and most of its original black paint.
Check out those crazy flames! Very Cool!!!

The moral of the story is take plenty pictures of your car. I would suggest taking black & white pictures as well as color.

    Joe

      John

There are lots of great Corvettes..but some like these just make your heart JUMP!!

      WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Here is another.

      A factory SR3..170 MPH!

Maybe it is our age group...but I tend to think it is just great styling that stands the test of time.

Can you imagine these on the Showroom Floor today..or whatever todays modern version is. Maybe its the stripes or the numbers or no windshield..but here again ..there is something special!

      Joe

That's a cool pic, John. Note the wheel covers painted black in the lower right corner.

Is that a tach mounted on the steering column?

And what about those bullet mirrors on left and right doors?

Running with the money guys, eh? Not an old car there. A pair of '56 Chevies (less than 2 years old), a '57 hardtop (year), and is that a '57 Oldsmobile convertible in the back?

The C2 and C3 owners need to look at these photos of the '57 and quit making fun of them. Real Corvettes have solid axles.

                  The C2 and C3 owners don't understand.
                  Pity them.

Who is making fun? This is October 1957. The oldest two cars are a pair of '56 Chevies. The '58 model would just now be showing. That says these guys were into buying new cars every year or couple of years. They weren't the Ralph Kramdens and Ed Nortons getting by on $40 a week.

This is before the rapid rise of the space age, hundreds of thousands of engineering jobs that paid great for every kid fresh out of school, and so on.

                      Mike

The guys pictured here would be 1st in line to buy the new Z06..no doubt.

It just seems that 1957 was a more innocent time before the space race, the sexual revolution, Vietnam, microwaves and now cell phones, blackberry's, HBO, Iraq 1, Iraq 2...well you get the picture.

Yes, a more innocent time, for sure. Just like the TV series "Route 66". In '93, they tried to revive the series as one with the son and it just didn't make it.

The innocence of the time, traveling around the country, doing odd-jobs here and there, getting involved in others' lives to help them, and so on was an alien concept in the rush into the Internet age, cell phones, LA highway shootings, and so on.

It is too bad. And it may explain the demand on the solid axle Corvettes, representing a time of innocence.

Things were much simpler then - here's an overall shot of the Akron Drag Strip on that day, Goodyear blimp hangar in the background; the strip was the service road around the edge of the Akron airport. Just off the left side of the photo is Derby Downs, the home of the Soap Box Derby. No VIP suites (or Chrondek or CompuLink Christmas trees) in those days, but we sure had fun!

Hey, I used to work there in the background. I remember that stretch of road and thoguth that was odd. Never knew that was a drag strip.

So John, did you get there often? Did you ever run into a guy named Steve Suhajcik from Akron. He ran altereds in the '60s.

                              Mike -

I was there pretty regularly - don't recall Steve Suhajcik offhand, but I was a Senior in high school then, and crewed (for free) on Joe Martincic's Chevy-powered dragster; was good training for the AA/FD I built and campaigned four years later.
