    C2 4 speed shifter ID..

Looks like the old hurst has to go.... Need those points!

How do you ID 63, vs 64-67, vs C3 4 sp shifters?

Do the LICS and other vendors carry gudgeable repros or are they still GM sourced?

    Thanks

Jim, most of the major parts houses have 63 shifters and linkage. Expect to pay about $475.00 for both. Originals that need rebuild/refurbish are equally as expansive.

      Thanks Harry...but..

If you attempt to find an original, how can you ID the diff between 63, 64-67, etc...

Looks like LICS lists shifter, linkage, and shaft for about that....

      Thanks

        Re: Thanks Harry...but..

That is easy. Here is a shifter set up for 1959 to 1962. It is almost the same as the '63 but the outside lever is too long, as it will hit the frame.

The '63 looks the same but with a short outside lever. The outside short lever is NOT the same as the inside short lever, which will sit in the neutral position at the wrong front-back angle.

Here is a '63. Note the different lever. Many try to sell the early one as for '63.

The '64 to '67 shifter is very different, the most obvious is the thick straight chrome lever.

You mentioned having a Hurst. Do you have a real Corvette Hurst or a generic Hurst. Many have been selling this type as a Corvette Hurst, but this has the welded in shift lever. This is the Falcon/Mustang Hurst. Corvette had the 7 inch bolt-in handle. This one is the Falcon, sold as Corvette:

It fits, but the handle is too tall.

              Seems like a good deal?

              Mike ,
Whats wrong with the Ebay 63-67 shifter you posted? Why are they priced so low?

Re: Seems like a good deal?

Which shifter? The Hurst is a Falcon, with the welded in handle.

The Corvette factory shifters will go nuts in the last few minutes of the auction. I've seen several that are low for 7 days and then sell of outrageous amounts.

                  Mike,
The 63-67 one on Ebay . It says he has ten of them and there is no time limit.
All are priced at $189. So why so cheap if you and other have stated they should be $400 plus ?

                    Oh ! I see those are 64-67 ! I'm guessing they're cheaper than a 63 shifter !
                    NEVER MIND !

                      Great post Mike!...

What does the 68+ look like?

Can you tell me if the ebay 64-67 is repro..or is GM still making them?

                      Thanks

I have bought several new Hurst Shifters in the late 60's and early 70"s for both c-2 and c-3 Corvettes. All had the welded on handles and were complete with linkage for the muncie. I didn't think the bolt on handles were available until the mid to late 70's

I had a '67 in '74 that had a Hurst in it from sometime before that. It was a bolt in handle and it was the straight 7 inch stick. Most of these on eBay have this curved stick that is around 10 or 12 inches tall.

Here is a link to a '69 shifter. I think '68 was the same, but I don't feel like crawling under mine right now to check. (actually, I don't feel like crawling under mine, period, but that will change when I get back to work on it.)

I don't know if the '64-'67 being sold is a repro or not.

The picture is a '68 - '76 according to the auction, and I'm not sure if there were changes. One change is that the '69 up had an interlock cable from the steering column to lock it in gear, but I can't remember how it hooked up down there or if the shifter was different or not as a result.

Interesting, A 10 to 12 " stick would definitely be too long. The Hurst comp+ I bought in 1970 and installed in my 66 had about a 7" curved welded on handle. It was about the same height as the original. I used this shifter for 10 to 12 years and loved it. Finally reinstalled the original shifter just to put vehicle back to original.
I also bought a new hurst for my brothers 69 in about 1972 but it had a straight handle and it hit the console in 1st and 3rd. It also had a welded on handle. He still has the car with the shifter in it.
                              Who knows?
