    C1 59: Door post screws

The judging guide for '59 cars is stating that the ratcheting wheel mechanism screws and side door glass rear channel philips screws should be unpainted (like in attached photo). I'm very much in doubt if this is correct since these screws were painted on my car with the original laquar paint (which was still in the door posts)...

How about the three painted philips head screws in this picture, should they be painted or not ?

PS I no the lower screw is missing in this picture but that is already solved...

PSS Does anyone has a spare hood hinge bolt left over since I'm one short. Please mail me if you do!!!

I don't have the '59 JG, but if that's what it says, it's incorrect; the door latch assembly was installed prior to paint, and the protruding portion was masked off, so those three screws were painted. The small triangular cover with three screws was also installed prior to paint, and the rear glass run channel was installed after paint, on the Trim Line, so its two screws are unpainted.

Hi Rob, my car is a 58 & they are painted. The one that is missing on your car is not painted on mine, nor is the gear like washer behind it. I am sorry I cannot explain it better, but I am not a mechanic.I hope this helps & I think it it is in agreement with John.
      Cheers,

Re: C1 59: Door post screws

Hi Rob, I have a 60 and the only screws on the door ends that are UNPAINTED are the two large ones with the star washers. All of the others are painted. I also have a copy of the 1958-60 NCRS Judging Manual and on page 19 it states "Door latches and strikers are plated but were installed prior to painting and may have overspray on edges. The side door glass rear channel phillips screws are unpainted, as is the ratcheting wheel mechanism at rear of door". This refers to the two large screws I was talking about and the ratcheting mechanism itself is unpainted but the screws holding it in place ARE painted. Hope this clears this up.

Thanks all for the info. I guess I had a problem interpreting the text correctly. Ithought the screws of the ratcheting mechanism were meant in the text...

          greetings,
          Rob.
