    C2 Odometer repair

The odometer and trip odometer on my 63 have stopped registering the mileage. The speedo portion registers the speed, it is just the mileage odometers that are not working. Can these be repaired or do you have to replace the entire drum assemblies? I am guessing that the gear or gears have worn down and are the cause of the problem. Any help or advice will be deeply appreciated.

Yes they can be repaired if you can find a competent repair shop. They all closed around here years ago. Too many electonic speedometers. Seems most Instrument restoration shops want or insist on doing a total restoration rather than a simple repair.

      Len,
Getting it out is the hard part. For repair, I suggest that you call Roger Scott in FL. I think he can solve your problem. His number is 561-691-2905.

      Regards,
      Gene

Corvette Specialties of Maryland did mine. They repaired the odometer and oil pressure gauge. They did a excellent job. Mike

Len, as previously stated the hardest part is removing the cluster. Since you must remove several components to remove the cluster consider saving the fix as a winter project. Last winter when I took out my cluster, I removed the steering column, brake and clutch assembly, firewall insulation, speedo cable, tach cable and oil line. It was a perfect time to check the upper and lower bearings in the column and replace what was needed. I also repainted the column as the upper portion of the column is painted interior color in a 63. The clutch and brake assembly was taken apart. medial blasted, painted and new components added (spring and bushings). Speedo and Tach. cable was cleaned and lubed. Also replace the firewall insulation. Lot's of work, lot's of visual benefit, avoided future problems at a very low cost. I just figured while I was in the area I'd fix/refurbish it all. You also get a chance to replace the cluster lenses and all of the bulbs. I sent two gages and the cluster face to Corvette Specialties of Maryland, Brian and his team did a great job.

I also refurbished the vent cables and hood release cable as well as remove the vent cover to clean out the junk that accumulated at the bottom of the vent. I had about 1.5 inches of leaves from the pas 40+ years that was blocking the bottom drain hole.

          Good Luck
