    master cylinder leak

    Hi All

I have a master cylinder I just rebuilt for my 62 vette. The problem i'm having is a tiny leak at the bottom of where the large threaded end that holds the guts in. The large copper washer is smooth when I installed it. It still has a tiny leak. I tried the steel washer that came in the kit. Still has leak. I looked over the entire end and can't see or feel any imperfection. Is there something I could put on the threads that would seal it? Or should I not put anything on the threads? Any suggestions? Anyone know where I can buy a new copper washer? I saw in the corvette central book that they sell one, but it is for 53- 60 only.Wouldn't that also fit 61 - 62 ? I feel the copper would be better cause it's softer and thats what came with the master cylinder when I bought it.

    Thanks...........John

    Re: master cylinder leak

When i rebuilt the one for a 56 i had the same leak. I gave the nut a couple of very quick zaps with an air gun. That fixed the leak. Rob

      Re: 1972 Corvette Master Cylinder

      John,
Also had the same problem with the copper washers on the M/C of my '56. I covered all the copper washers with a small coat of liquid teflon before install and the problem was fixed.

        THanks Rob and Pierre

I'll try tightening it more first, then the liquid teflon if that does not work.

        Thanks again..................John
