3 Digit Sequence Number, C3

There's a an interesting 68 L89 on E-Bay now from Corvette Mike. One picture shows the Tank Sticker with the number 337 written on it. Another picture shows a chalk mark on a bulk head that says 366.

Are these numbers supposed to be the same? Seems to me I found a similar discrepancy on my 68. There is a chalk mark that says 435 on the car (it is an L71 but I don't think that's what it means) but the tank sticker has 428 written on it.

Or am I confused and it really is that these numbers are not related?

Hello Rich,
This is how it relates the numbers.The factory used the job numbers up to 500 and started over again up to 500 for the second group to 1,000.

VIN 13,349
tank sheet # 428
difference 513 The difference is 13 for this group of cars built. This is the chassic line numbers with hand written numbers on the tank sheet.

VIN 25941
tank sheet # 337
difference 12 The difference is 12 for this group of cars built. This is the chassic line numbers with hand written numbers on the tank sheet.

The body job number for VIN 13,349 is 366 off 17 numbers.
The body job number for VIN 25,941 is 435 off 506 numbers.

The plant body assembly line is off in numbers not sure how this happened.
The plant corrected the match of body assembly line and the chassic assembly line to the VIN in 1969 and later years.

I think you have one piece reversed because my first message was not too clear. My VIN 25941 has 428 on the build sheet and 435 on the car.

The one on E-Bay has 337 on the build sheet and 366 on the car.

Does this make more sense?
