Best grease for Vent Window regs

I am ready to re-assemble the vent window regulators, is white lithium the recommended grease for this application?

    Thanks,
    Scott

If it was me, I'd use GM #12377985. This is a premium, all-purpose lubricant. You can use it for just about everything except wheel bearings. It's actually even ok for wheel bearings, but I don't use it for that.

      Joe,

Is that recommended product still generally available through GM or Delco suppliers?

There was a product like that--something to replace Lubriplate (I don't have the number handy) recommended some time ago by yourself or another of the regulars on the board, but for the life of me, I have been unable to find any at dealers either here in Canad or in various US locations where I travel (FL, NY, OH, PA, CO).

      Thanks,

As far as I know, the GM #12377985 grease is still available from GM.

Many GM dealers don't stock very many of the GM maintenence products. Worse yet, if you order them you usually have to buy a full case quantity. I think that it's GM's "official" policy that dealers are supposed to order GM maintenence products for customers in whatever quantity they are distributed and sell them to customers in whatever quantity they wish to purchase. However, if this is actually the policy, you won't find too many dealers that observe it.

I have found over the years that the GM products are absolutely superb. Some, of course, are the same things that you can purchase in an auto parts stores under their brand names (like Locktite, etc.). However, there are many GM products that are not otherwise available. Apparently, the manufacturing source makes these products to GM's specification and for GM only.

            Joe,

Thanks. I'll try to order some through the local dealers. Unfortunately, many of the US part numbers do not work on GM's Canadian parts system (or have alternates/replacements).

I agree with you re: the quality of some GM products. Many years ago I recall buying their "Blue Coral" line of car care products which at the time were unavailable through stores (in Canada, anyway). Although rather expensive through GM, the Blue Coral polishes and glazes were often superior to anything else available at the time.

The Blue Coral products eventually became available in auto parts stores, but you're right: at one time, they were a GM-only item. In fact, if you go WAY back, I think they were available only from Cadillac dealers.

Now, I'm talking about the ORIGINAL Blue Coral polish and preservative sealer (wax). This was from the days when it was manufactured by H.D.T. Factors Company of White Plains, NY. Later, it became "just a name" that was attached to more-or-less run-of-the-mill auto finish products. That's how it is today.

The original Blue Coral products, and, particularly, the preservative sealer, were the absolute best EVER. None of the modern day, hi-tech products even compare to the Blue Coral preservative sealer. Not even close. Period.

                Joe,

I too have experience with the Preservative Sealer product (the original type from GM) and I whole-heartedly agree with you that they were great. I recall one of the instructions for applying the Sealer read to "burnish the finish, using a damp terrycloth rag"; certainly an unusual procedure for a wax/polish type product in comparison to today's "wipe-on/wipe-off" generation.

I used the Blue Coral to rejuvenate the finish on a black 81 Citation X-11, and the results were simply outstanding...but a LOT of work and muscle grease!

If you recall, the original Blue Coral even had a distinctive smell, one that reminded me of new car showrooms (I guess they might have used it) and dealership body and service bays.
