Hello all, what is the difference between 65 knock off repros and 66 knock off repros? A guy down the road has 4 that are still in the boxes. He bought them for a 65. I have a 66; I would like to buy them for my car. I think he wants $1500. Is that fair? I think I have seen them in a catalog somewhere for not much more than that.

Both have painted spokes - probably to hide brake dust (the '63-'64 spokes are not painted), but IIRC the '65 versions used a polished cone - same as '63 and '64, but the '66 cone has a brushed finish - probably also to hide dust from the disk brakes.

Like I always say, one of the big and often unacknowledged advantages of drum brakes is that there no brake dust to get your wheels dirty. It's all contained within the brake drum.

Hello Bill,

You can buy the correct brushed 66 cones seperately for about $30 each from all the suppliers. I would be interested in buying the 65 crome cones assuming they are in "new" shape. Also, if you choose to not buy your neighbors wheels, I would consider buying them.
