I have been searching for a 1972 Conv with matching numbers. Because thier seems to be a zillion ways to counterfeit the engine, does this setup make sense?
Build date: Sept 7, 1971 Engine Cast: 3970010; Date Code: E 17 1 Engine Build: V0802CKW Heads Csting: 3973487; Date Code G 26 1 VIN on the Block Stamping pad matches the windshield post VIN.
The numbers break down as follows. Your car was built in sept. with a build date letter of B. The engine casting number is correct. the heads are correct(dated july) the block sounds ok V0802ckw=4speed base motor(200hp) the casting date is E=may. without looking at the car I would say everything looks within reasonable plant manufacturing times. Sounds like a nice car. also check to make sure the vin number contains the letter K which is the base engine. it should be right after the 67 in your vin. 1972 was the first year that the engine option was included in the vin. Hope this helps you out.GOOD LUCK
