A person has a GM distributor # 111267 for sale. He thinks its a '65 TI type distributor. My books are not showing anything on it. My question is, will this unit work on a '66 TI setup? Thanks

Re: 1111267 Distributor: What is it??
Ken,
If I remember the numbers correctly, what you have is an over the counter, service only, distributor for a 67-69 Z28 Camaro. This unit was specifically designed for the 2X4 crossram package and was never used in any production car.
It should work well in your 66 as the basic unit is interchangeable, includint the TI poles.
I just can't remember if it had a vacuum advance unit though. If so, that can be changed to the proper unit for your car. The cent adv curve is likely much different than it should be for your 66 but that too can be changed to somewhat align with the specs for your car.

It's Camaro over-the-counter '67-69
with mechanical tach drive and vac advance (unit stamped 400). I can email or post the centrifugal and vacuum advance characteristics if you want them.
Link below is an excellent Camaro article on all things TI; much applies to Corvettes
(almost) all you need to know about TI- Top

Re: It's Camaro over-the-counter '67-69
Wayne,
Interesting article on TI and Camaro, thanks. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the 267 distributor did not include a tach drive. At least not the early units built in 67 or 68. I'm pretty sure I still have a new 267 that we couldn't use because our car had a Jones cable tach. A few months later, GM sent a 263 ball bearing dist with tach drive.
The 267 that I have is probably one of the first 25, or so, that were shipped in early 68.
I'll try to dig out some info on this. I know that's here but the distributor would still be in Illinois so I can't verify on that.

Re: 1111267 Making this on a '66 L72
If this unit (1111267) does have the tach drive output and the vacuum advance, what would I need to change on it to make it work with my '66 427 L72? (Getting the advance curve correct.) Is it the weights, springs and the vacuum diaphragm? If so are the weights and springs available, and where? Thanks- Top

Re: 1111267 Making this on a '66 L72
Ken,
I just spoke with an old friend in Illinois that still has a shed full of 67-69 Z28 parts left over from the Trans-Am days. He assured me that both of his spare 1111267 distributors had tach drives. He too used a Jones/Motorola cable drive tach and needed the drive. So.. it looks like the early release 267's did not have the drive but later ones did?
Wouldn't it be easier to just call your friend that has the distributor for sale and just ask if it has the drive?
If it does have the drive, you can use this unit in your 66 425 HP car with a few changes to the mechanical advance and a different vacuum advance unit. None of the original components that were used in the 425 HP distributor are available today so you will have to improvise and get the cent curve somewhere near factory spec's for your car. The vacuum advance should be replaced with something with a lot less action. Most small block units have total adv in the 15 deg range. You should look for a big block unit similar to the original that had only about 12 degrees. All of the specs for cent advance curve will be in your 66 service manual.- Top
