    C2 Dash Paint?

    Members,
I am soliciting advice for correct dash paint for my '65. Dash color is black and I would like to paint radio speaker grill, spot in center portion of dash under clock, and console side panels.

Does someone have a favorite brand that has the correct shade and gloss level for this application?

    Thanks in advance.

Gene. I just pulled my center dash and painted it with a satin black. It looks great. Sometimes when the JG reads "semi-gloss black", I think it is more accurate to use a satin black. Back in the '60's, the choices were basically anything between gloss and flat was considered semi-gloss. Now we have the choice of a satin gloss, and I think it is the better choice. It still has a nice sheen, but it's just a little less glossy than the semi-gloss.

      Gene,

I used Krylon "Semi-Flat Black" on my 65 dash and it worked great. Careful cleaning and preparation is a must as with any paint. Others on this board have also recommended one of the John Deere "Blitz Black" gloss levels, but I have no experience with this brand.

      Good luck!

Gene, I recently did mine with Blitz Black from John Deere. Turned out nice. A very importent thing is cleaning of the dash area. Many if not all dashes have been subjected to a silicone based product (ARMOR-ALL) at some point in its life. This stuff is extremely difficult to get off so that the new paint won't "fish-eye". I cleaned mine with various solvents and the fish eyes remained. I finally used some "BULLDOG ADHESION PAINT" And then put on very light coats of the Blitz. This solved the fish-eye problem.
        Good Luck

I also used the Krylon semi gloss #1613 on the dash, speaker grill, radio panels and steering column.

            Scott,

            I think Krylon 1613 is called semi-FLAT, not semi-GLOSS.
