If an early 1960's (C-1) engine was replaced under warranty what would have been stamped on the block (cylinder case) pad?

Depends, could be a CE number, could be Blank, could be something stanped by the dealer.

Would there be any other indicators that would identify a factory replacement block other than the stamp pad, casting number or casting date?

Ray, I believe your engine pad...

...would be blank IF it came as a service replacement fitted case or long block from Chevrolet and the dealer or nobody else fooled with it. I think the CE stampings started later.
