    C2 PUSHRODS

Can someone give me good advise on what replacement pushrod they would use in a 67 L79 engine (stock factory cam w/hydraulic lifters). I just found 2 bent ones and plan to replace the whole set in my fresh rebuilt engine. Joe Lucia or Duke please chime in on this. I also need help on where to get them since I am in the United Kingdom.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Harry. My archive search was dismal and then I just scrolled down a few lines and there was the information I desperately had just spent almost 2 hours looking for. I had went to the Crane cams website, Summit Racing website, ebay, and to my old 1978 GM parts book and was getting very frustrated and confused. By reading what was posted on this FORUM I was able to figure out that I need a set of GM 12495491 pushrods pronto! I am sure glad I belong to and read this FORUM!!!

Below is the response I recieved last year from Lucia asking the same question about a 66 L79.

I'm out of town and I don't recall the number of the stock pushrod. However, the current GM replacement pushrod for all PRODUCTION 1955+ small blocks with flat tappet lifters is not the same in configuration as the original pushrod. I recommend that you use pushrod GM #14044874. This pushrod is very similar, if not identical, to the original PRODUCTION pushrods, PLUS it's MUCH stronger. What more could you ask for?

14044874 is the single pushrod pn, you would want pn 12495491 for the set . . . .

check the valves of the affected puchrods and make sure they aren't seized. seems to be rather common problem due to the crappy gasoline we're feeding our engines. mike

if the bent ones are intake make sure the exhaust lobes on that cylinder are not worn down because if the exhaust gas can not get out there is a lot of force on the intake valve to open against a cylinder full of pressure either bending a pushrod or pushing a pushrod thru the rocker arm. i have seen both happen

                Why not ring up...

Tom Falconer at Claremont Corvette and ask him to hot shot you a pair of good push rods, Jimmy? Seems to me that HAS to be the most efficient solution to the problem...
