I'm coming to the experts again with this question. My Hood release handle seemed very tight so I removed the entire handle, bracket, cable etc. No wonder it was pretty dry and cruddy. I figured while it is out I'd re-furbish it. How do I paint the black without getting in the white lettering and how do I paint the white lettering without getting on the black? I know someone has done this. What are the secrets? As usual I appreciate any help and suggestions.

Re: C-2 Hood Release Handle
Don, as I recall originally the handle is painted with gloss enamel paint (black and white).
The only way I have found to do this is to clean the handle. Sand only if needed. Paint the handle with gloss black lacquer paint. Let dry overnight.
Us TESTORS white model paint (that stuff you used as a kid) and fill in the letters (don't worry if you make a mess). As soon as you are done take a clean white lint less rag, spray it with very lightly with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner - 08987. Wrap the moist rag tightly over one (1) finger and wipe one (1) time the length of the handle. Not too soft and not too hard.
This will remove the white paint that is not in the letters. Also, it will not penetrate or remove the black lacquer. I experimented the first time, the second time it came out perfect.
Good luck

Re: C-2 Hood Release Handle
Don,
After you have painted the black with your favorite semi-gloss paint, and it's dry (give it a day or two) just use "water based" white paint of any kind, even house paint, with a small brush, then you can simply wipe over the handle with a wet cloth to remove any excess white paint without disturbing the black. It will look like new again.- Top

Re: C-2 Hood Release Handle
Thats why I come to the discussion board. Thanks guys for the tips. What is the correct black finish ?? High gloss or semi / satin (Krylon 1613)??? Mine was rather worn and scratched and I really can't tell which it is. Thanks again- Top
