150+ in my C-5,but i ran out of guts because the
side windows started to blow out and it got very noisey inside the car.this is why the C-6 windows go into a "U" channel so this can not happen. i think my C-6 is faster but my governor(mrs clem) keeps waking up as i get up to speed.- Top

Re: Fast enough to outrun a helicoptor on night
C'mon Mike, we need numbers here. I think you and I will be in the semi finals with the BB 67's but I bet we loose at the end. (you've run Daytona, right?)- Top

Re: Fast enough to outrun a helicoptor on night
Now, Michael, who here can claim to outrun a helicoptor?
Of course, I cheated. It was long ago and it was only good for about 120 knots, from information I have on that particular one.
It was in my '68 conv 427 and I was up around 145, 1981 but I don't remember the date. About 12:30 AM on I270 eastbound from Bellefontaine Rd in North St. Louis to IL Rt 3.
However, I have been 150 many, many times in the '68 in various open lonely sections of highway in Illinois, many times on Moro Road east to IL Rt. 159 (north of Bethalto, IL).- Top

Mine easily exceeds 200
but there again, we're using the metric system. I've forgotten how to convert back to furlongs per fortnight.- Top

135 mph in a 67 327/300 HP Convertible
Years ago (1971)on a brand new unopened highway in California. The tach was at 5300 with a 3.08 rear end. Chickened out when the front end got a little light and the car drifted across the road with a slight crosswind. Started worrying about the Michelin X's, and you would not believe the pressure and noise on the convertible top.
Young and foolish then.

Re: How Fast
153 MPH @ 6000 revs in the SWC traversing the I-5 express lanes over the ship canal bridge, Seattle, north bound, about 0230 hours, UW graduation night, early June 1968
If you know Seattle, the express lanes are on the lower deck and there is an exit at 42nd street, which is at the north end of the bridge - began heavy braking at the crest of the bridge, made the corner, and thank God the light at the end of the ramp was green as I don't think I could have stopped. Drove forthwith to my garage about two blocks away and told our tale to the usual party going on at the house I rented with a couple of other guys. My witness, who was riding shotgun is a retired AF Colonel and current executive with Lockheed Missile and Space, Sunnyvale, CA.
The next morning when I opened the garage door I could smell the J-65s.

Clem ain't learned the fine art of oneupmanship
Old story in St. Louis Region "Wheelspin" about a couple of racers coming back from Dallas or somewhere. It dealt with racers and the fun you can have with yoru race car on a trailer in a gas station when dealing with the Great Unwashed.
The race car in this part was a Formula Ford and the Unwashed was a kid pumping gas.
Kid: How fast will 'er go?
Racer: About 120.
Kid: Aw, ___, ma' buddy's got a 'Vette and it'll go faster than that.
Racer: In second gear?
The rules of oneupmanship are easy - second liar always wins.- Top

Re: Mine easily exceeds 200
Don't you have to factor in the number of stones?
I was really surprised one night going up the M1 north of Milton Keynes about 90 and passed to police officers and they did absolutely nothing.
I guess the reason is that I had mph and I needed that in furlongs and fortnights to know if I was speeding or not.- Top
