I posted a previous thread related to this subject on 6/23/05. Need some help and insights based on this new information: Installed new alt & AC belts. When AC is turned on...it produces cool air and there are no grinding noises from the compressor. When idling and ac is off...all is well. When AC is turned on, the drag it creates causes the alt belt to slip...intermittingly stopping the water pump/fan. The car has no A.I.R. pump and there is no crank to fan belt, I do have the idler wheel. I purchased the car two years ago with this exact setup...thinking that the available groove on the pulley was for the AIR pump (I know different now). The AC compressor was rebuilt back in '97 and goes unused only for the time the car it laid up in the Northeast winter...sporatically used during the summer. I plan to pick up the small crank to fan belt and install a new alt & AC belt...since I smoked them up and glazed them over pretty good. I'm hoping that the installation of the crank to fan belt will correct the problem. Seems like a reasonable first step before getting into the AC compressor, etc. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
