A 60 corvette has popped up on my radar screen. It is a 1960 corvette, 2 top 270 H.P. 4 speed car, 3.70 posi rear. It has been repainted about 10 years ago. Current owner has had it for 28 years. He wants a C5 convertible. It has the original factory installed powertrain. Price is a little over $30000.00. It runs and drives nice, has never been apart. May, Possibly get 3 of 4 categories for the survivor award. It would lose 1 because of the re-paint. Anyway, I am trying to figure out where I would be financially on my 60 vette I bought in January. I would like to buy the original powertrain corvette and sell mine, which has none of its original powertrain. Question: What is the cost difference to replace these parts? Just for comparison. My 60 was cheap. I was going to simply make a street car out of it. What would it cost in today's market: a block, heads, 2x4 intake with carbs, bellhosing, 4 speed tranny and shifter, all dated right for my June 60 car. Of course I would always know the powertrain was not installed at the factory like the other 60. The owner of the 60 for sale, knows the other 2 previous owners except for the original owner. It has 79000 miles on it now. The 60 for sale has its factory jack, shielding, tags on the carbs, wheelcovers, etc. a complete car. Its decision time. Thanks for hearing me out.

Re: 60 corvette parts cost evaluation.
I am going to look at it in about an hour. If I buy this one I will probably need to sell my current 60 project. If I can, I will try to post some pictures of this car on this site. Thanks for the help.- Top

Re: 60 corvette parts cost evaluation.
Back from looking at the 60 for sale. Definately the original powertrain. Shielding is all there missing al. radiator. This car's chassis and engine compartment would pass the survivor judging. The paint :no. The interior has some paint touchup on the gauge cluster, pass. side and center radio cluster has also been touched up. The carpet has been changed by the owner years ago. The seat back cushions when turned around have the tag on the spring section and also an the skin towards the bottom have the letter B hand written about 1" tall and next to it in a sharp pen X43. The Passenger seat in the same area has the Letter A. Are these original seats. They have not been changed out by this owner of 28 years or the previous owner. My guess is they're original. The dash has some vinyl skin missing about a 2x3" piece from vandalism. Will this interior pass the 50% unrestored needed for survivor??? At least 3 of 4 categories each have to have at least 50% unrestored. I am not familiar with NCRS bowtie judging criteria. The Original windshield is badly scratched on pass. side. Drivers window reg. not working. Sloppy 27 year old repaint with no masking in many areas right over the trunk weatherstrip (example). It is missing 3 bonding strips with lots of fiberglass including cloth(nono). Possibly long ago the pass. side fender was changed out. This is the worst part of the car. I would add the bonding strips and clean out the excess glass, or just drive it. The car is about an 8 at 20 feet. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks- Top

Re: 60 corvette parts cost evaluation.
I'm not sure how far you are on your current '60, but this one sounds more like it is in tune with your goals. For one, it has the original drivetrain and yours never will. Your comments in another note tell how much that means to you.
For that reason alone, if I were you, I'd buy this one and sell your current one.
Give it the cleanup and see what happens for Bow Tie and Survivor. It isn't like they take your car and crush if you don't make it.- Top
