how many of you guys, bring your car to the local show N shine car shows?
how well does your NCRS car do at a show like that? does it get passed over for the hot roded ones?

    Re: other car shows

There's one local one I hit every year. I'm usually the only C2. It appears that the cleanest cars win. I have never won. It's still fun to see all that neat stuff. There's a couple of regular "cruise in's" during the summer around here. If there are vettes there, they are usually non NCRS guys, and don't hesitate to tell me, either.

        Lyndon,

here in the Baltimore, MD area I tend to do a Concours and/or show-n-shine almost every weekend. usually, am the only C2 in the show - sometimes the ONLY Vette in the show! 1963 is currently down for the last month, but the last show I did, I was "LADY's Choice"! Typically, take a trophy of some kind, but I just like folks looking at my 1963 Z06

          Lyndon:

Out here in the west, I hit the WSCC(Western States Corvette Council)shows all the time, they are DEFINITELY a show and shine type event only. Some of the participants cars have a NCRS decal on one of the windows, but for the most part they are quite content with their own type of car showing.

It's usually the only events I get to see other fellow C3's at. Unless we have a NCRS event here. I usually do fairly well at these events, because if the car is good enough for top flight status in NCRS, it's usually pretty nice throughout for WSCC events. The car usually draws pretty good attention being an LS-6, and not very commonly seen,

I attend other shows and do quite well. Depending on the show location, many times, I already know most if not all of the C2 owners. It doesnt seem to matter if you are NCRS or non-NCRS. It is just great to see each other again and discuss cars and "other stuff".

Most don't put down NCRS, they are quick to point out that they are "not into that numbers thing". I think they just don't know what NCRS is all about. You have to admit though, there are some fanatics around. There's a guy around here who delights in telling everybody what's not right on their cars, whether you ask him, or not. I think people who are not NCRS get the wrong impression from that stuff. My 66 is a long way from any Flight award, but I'm still glad I'm a member and still attend the meets when I can.

I do 6-8 events each summer, generally with our Club. Below is a pic of my green 1967 from a show about a week ago. The C6 looks very nice in that silver colour.

My car is not NCRS material but we do have a few members who are enthusiasts. They typically have Corvette "drivers" as well.

In the New Orleans area the local clubs support the NCRS events in whatever way they can. The local clubs have created a class for their show that allow the NCRS cars to be in a group for themselves. They call it Original/Restored and they compete among themselves. The NCRS cars have the option to go head to head with the other cars or remain in their class. Cars shows are supposed to be fun....and we strive to accomidate all corvette owners. The NCRS chapter also puts a group of cars as a display in local events and has seminars on what NCRS is, stands for, and how it co-exist with the other corvette enthusiast. Corvetteing is a hobby, sport, lifestyle and a comunity.

                    Ralph

That's the way I think it should be. Unfortunately, some don't see it that way. A month or so ago there was a thread about a rare corvette race car that was vadalized at Bloomington. I suggested NCRS should contribute to a reward to catch the individual. I got a private e-mail from a well respected NCRS member and former officer who thought that was wrong, since "Bloomington has nothing to do with NCRS". He was right, of course, but my position is it's about the cars and the history and the fun more than it is about the club.

Anyway, the good news is there's room for everybody.

                      Re: other car shows

Lyndon, I show my '67 Elkhart Blue coupe in many shows, cruises, etc.each year. The shows with all types of cars, trucks, bikes are very loosely judged if at all. Some rely on spectators' choice. Then, the hot-rodded cars win-chrome is king! My car is often the only mid-year or even the only Vette in the show. If there are any C1 cars there, they usually take the spectators' choice and red ones are a shoo-in. Other shows rely on participant's choice. This is a very unfair type as everyone votes for their buddies. My car does best in Corvette-only shows where judging is done based on cleanliness and overall workmanship. My pet peeves are threefold: 1. Entry fees are creeping upward every year. There is no need for the exhoribtant fees some clubs charge to show your car. 2. Many of those who put on the shows have no concept of show cars and owners. At a recent show I attended, the cars were actually forced to drive through a 6" deep mud puddle to get to the show field! and 3. New cars, Vettes included, have no place in a "classic" car show. If they must be allowed, they should be in a separate class. Sorry to be so long winded .

I just showed my '57 at a local car show in Bemidji,MN last weekend that had over 200 entries. There were about a dozen Corvettes. When I arrived the guys parking the cars asked me if I wanted a prime spot near the front where more people could see it. I agreed. There was participant voting and I took First Place in the Corvette class. I also got Dealer's choice award from the local GM dealership. Corvettes usually get positive response at generic shows.
