    Need P/N Help (Joe Lucia)

First - Big Congrats to Joe L. for being awarded the NCRS Presidents Award

Need help once again with some 'Pulley' part number's for :
    Late 1963 Early 1964 (Nov 63) 327 x 365hp No-A/C No-Pwr steering basic motor

I have the following part numbers for some pulleys and need confirmation/help with the correct ones..

    Alternator Pulley : 3829387 ?
    Crank Pulley : 3858533 ?
    Water Pump Pulley : 3770245 ?
    Idler Pulley : 3829191 ?

    NCRS #43184

    Thanks in Advance

Re: Need P/N Help (Joe Lucia)

    The AIM lists the following:

Alt: 3829193, changed from 3844102 on 8/19/63. I think 3829387 is the service replacement.
Crank: 3766987, service replacement is 3858533.
Water pump: 3850141, changed from 3770245 on 10/8/63.
    Idler: 3829191

For the numbers that changed early in the production run, I can't say when they got changed on the line.

With the exception of the Idler pulley (which I didn't use), those are the numbers I had on my 64 365 buildup before I switched to A/C.

    Mine was built Nov 22 63 #105579

      David, Paul,

      Looks like Joe Lucia will be out of town for a few days so I'll try to help with your part numbers. I believe a few of the numbers that Paul submitted are incorrect. The correct numbers are as follows;

Alt: The correct original part number is 3829193. This changed to 3871242. both are discontinued but the correct 193 is reproduced and available from several sources.

C/Shaft: The correct original part number is 3766987. It was replaced by 3858533 on 8/64. I believe there is a reproduction of the 987 if you are restoring back to original. If you are just building a driver and don't require exact original, the 3858533 will work and it's still available from GM under the 533 number.

Water Pump: The correct original part number is 3770245. This part is still available from GM.

Idler: 3829191 is the original part number for the idler pulley "assembly", which includes the bracket. It was discontinued by GM years ago but is reproduced and available from several vendors.

Thanks Mike, I was pulling numbers from the AIM but my conclusions were probably wrong.
I think Joe is probably still in Park City, so I gave my limited resourses a shot. Sorry for the confusion.

I haven't looked in the AIM but I didn't recognize either of the numbers you posted for the w/pump or alt pulley. Could these numbers have come from the base engine section of the AIM instead of the optional L76/L84 section?

I'll look in the parts book and see if I can figure out what they're supposed t fit.

I'll have to reverify when I get home, but I'm sure I was in the L76 section. There was a picture of the front of the engine and all the pulleys were listed as well as the idler all on the same page. Those part numbers were the ones listed as being different than the base. At the bottom of the page listed numbers that were replaced early in the prodution run (Aug and Oct 63).

When I built my 365, and bought all the "correct" pulleys, I ended up with the same numbers as Dave listed in his original post/question.

Joe Lucia is in Park City, and.....

has no computer access. We had a wonderful chat about BB exhaust manifold bolts while waiting for the bus to the Olympic Village air show last night.

                Michael and David----

Based upon what I know, this pulley information for the 63 L-76 is correct.
