I have a '67 BB that I bought in primer. It is Goodwood green with STD interior. Should the Stinger be black or white? I think it is white. The JM says white, but, I have an old NCRS book (the white one with orange writing on it, 53-72 information, #'s etc) and it says a black interior Goodwood green car should be black. Help me clear this up for sure. Was black used with any interior color with goodwood green?
i'd paint it white. my 67 435 green/green stinger was definitly white but i believe the black interior would also have called out for white. befre painting it, call keith biggers, 67 team leader, and get his opinion as ultimatley he'll make the call if you have it judged. his phone # is on page 3 of restorer mag. wait a week as he's in park city. mike
I have a 1967 big block Goodwood Green/Green.That was judged at regional and National NCRS shows, as well as Bloomington. My hood stripe is WHITE.I never received a deduct nor was it questioned. Prior to judging I read and was told conflicting information of which color was correct.I spoke to Roy Signor as well as Keith Biggers, both told me the the stinger on ALL GOODWOOD GREEN cars are painted WHITE, regardless of interior color. Hope this helps. Lou
Noland specifically asked this question when he was working on his book. It seems that the GM specifications called for black with certain combinations. My answer to him at that time is the same as it is now. I have only observed white on a green car, and that includes the white with black interior combination. He chose to include the black posibility in his book, eventhough the physical evidence was against it. I think this is where the earlier NCRS specification came from, but it has been revised since then.
As you have noted, the Judging Manual says white only. But I chose black. As much of my car is not correct (including now the hood), and black appealed to me, I went ahead with the incorrect colour. I am posting a pic for your visual information.
Thanks Lyndon. I am pleased with the paintjob. Here is a pic at the shop in late May when I picked up the car. The job took three months but much of that in winter so little driving time was lost. The SB hood was painted at the same time so I can revert back if need be.
Paul, on page 199 of the book "Corvette Amarica's Sports Car" by the auto editors of Consumer Guide (1989) there is a pic of a '67 green coupe with black stinger. A beautiful combination.
Pat, Thank you for that reference. I do not have that book but will have a peek at a local library.
My inspiration actually came from the overall colour accents of the car. With the black-centered AR wheels and black rocker moldings it seemed like a logical and consistent extension. I know it is not correct but the overall look pleases me. Strangely, I have yet to hear any critiques of that hood, either for reasons of colour or the 327 engine underneath.
