    CA LICENSE PLATE - C3

I'm looking at a 69 Corvette which has an old CA blue yellow license plate on it: 257 XYV does anyone know when this plate would of been issued?

    Thanks in advance.

My C-2 (blue) plate is 593 PPG and it was issued in 1974 when we moved from Arizona to California.

      Jimmy:

California issued the blue & yellow plate in the calendar year 1969. This was a transition year, as both black & yellow and blue & yellow were available during the year.

Jimmy, I had a new 1978 Pontiac that was 610 WIV (I think it was around March '78), so assume that your plate was issued later in 1978.

My 67 Corvette has license plate 757 ATW and I have the original 1970 California "pink slip" showing that was the number issued to it that year

My wife had a 1967 Pontiac which she purchased new before we were married in 1968. The license plate (black) was UCL 964.

              Jimmy-----

The first "blue and gold" California license plates were issued in very late September or early October of 1969. My car was delivered to me on September 30, 1969 and the "blue and gold" plates I received a few weeks later had alpha characters "AHI".

I would expect that the 1969 you're looking at had plates issued APPROXIMATELY 1980, or so. It's possible that the plates were replaced at that time for a variety of reasons (the loss, theft, or damage of one of the original plates are among many reasons that this could have happened). It's also possible, of course, that the car was brought in from another state and first registered in California at that time.
