    C2 Ejectto Lighter...

In prep for our local chapter judging, I replaced a lighter. Now...instead of not popping...it explodes out of its socket! Any ideas to conrol the payload on this thing?

    Thanks

you must have the 007 lighter, was the old one working at all? did you use a new GM one? you might try a different one.

      Hi Jim:

I've never fully understood the "pop out" mechanism in these lighters. Hopefully someone on this board can provide an explanation of how they work. However, I had the same problem you have when I replaced my lighter last year, and I recall studying the design at that time. I ended up gently bending the tabs that retain the lighter in the "popped out" position.

Care must be used when making these adjustments, because I think an improper adjustment could force the lighter to remain in the "pushed in" (and powered) position after it has fully heated. This could cause dangerous overheating.

When you bend the two tangs on the side of the lighter receptacle, be sure to use a wooden utensil like a Popsicle stick to to do this. The idea is to prevent contact with the base of the receptacle which is always "hot". The wood is non conductive and saves you from having to disconnect the battery.

I think the problem is that the original design had three tangs holding the lighter in and the replacements have only two. Thus the "bending" adjustments. Also, what element are you using?

Two items here - the tension of the bimetallic tangs at the bottom of the well determine how hot the element gets before it ejects, and the tangs on the side of the housing determine whether it "pops" properly or flies into your lap. Make sure the battery is disconnected when "adjusting" the tangs to achieve the desired result.

              Yey...
It is a replacement recepticle with the two retaining tangs. Yes, the original had three. I don't see other tangs on the side of the ejecting lighter element however...ahh..they are on the side of the female housing!

Thanks again. I am always amazed by the mass of knowledge and experience in the members of this "afflicted" community.
