Can anyone id this flywheel. It has 153 teeth. It looks identical to the 3791022. Was this a replacement flywheel. If so, why a date code of Nov(???)1, 1962?
I have a 3791022 with a casting number 3791021 and dated L206. Is this date code Oct. 20, 1966?
Thanks
I guess I should search the archives BEFORE posting. ;~)
Joe Lucia answered this earlier this year:
'I think that the number is "3973458 N". This is a 12-3/4" nodular iron flywheel of lightweight (16 lb) design. This flywheel was first issued in 1970 and was one of the casting numbers used for flywheels once sold under GM PART number 3991406. Primarily, this flywheel was used for SERVICE of 1965 L-78 and 1967-69 L-88 and was used in PRODUCTION and SERVICE for 1970-72 ZR-1. However, it can be directly retrofitted to any 63-68 small block application.'
I'm still curious as to the date code on my 3791022 flywheel. L206...Is this date code Oct. 20, 1966?
Thanks...
There's no way to say, for sure, what year that the flywheel you have was cast. It could very well be October 20, 1966. However, it could also be October 20, 1976 as the 3791022 was still in production at that time. As a matter of fact, I think that it was still in production in 1986 and 1996, too. So, it could be any of those years. Since there's no way to discern which it is, it's completely up to you. If you want it to be October 20, 1966, then that's what it is!
