Re: 70-72 Park City
I was 'tapped' to judge interiors in my 'other' specialty area ('65) and excluding the two L78 BB's cars that were present (they made a special division for '65-67 BB), there were six '65 Flight cars present. It was HOT on that Thursday and it seemed like ALL of the cars to be judged had black interiors as I was seating like a PIG on the ground in my knee pads to get the job done!
Apparently 'Uncle Chuckie' had a sufficient body count of qualified Shark judges for his '68-72 Flight division, so I got time off for 'good behavior' and didn't pull Flight Judging duties in Sharkdom (a Weds activity). The field was six cars wide and I paced about because one of the cars (a '68 L36) was A/C equipped and I wanted to see/photograph its carb idle solenoid. Uncle Dickie (Mr. Whittington) did mech judging on this one toward the end of the day and I was a bit disappointed/confused by the configuration of the idle solenoid/bracket/clamp that it was wearing (looked to me like it wasn't a correct factory/original system), but, hey, I was there to learn/observe.
So, there were six early Shark Flight cars at the convention + five Founders cars. The Founders cars included my '71 SB A/C convertible, a '72 BB A/C coupe from Colorado, a '72 SB convertible from Colorado (with 383 'stroker' power plant) and, if memory serves, two '68-9 cars from other areas one of which was a Duntov Mark of Excellence award winner now being actively used/driven by the owner!- Top
