I have heard from 2 different sources that when any Chevrolet car was delivered with a 396 C.I. engine that a 45 RPM record was in the glove box. The record contained a song written about the 396. I owned a new 68 396 chevelle and don't remember this. Can anyone confirm this or is this just another rumor with no basis? I'm sure if this rumor is fact, that someone on this board could confirm that. Since the 65 Corvette was offered with a 396, I was wondering if it was delivered with one, if infact, this rumor is true. I hope this post is appropriate for the board. Thank you........Bill B.

Re: 45 RPM Records in 396 Glove Boxes
Bill------
I've never heard of such an inclusion in the glove box of 1965 L-78 Corvettes. Once-upon-a-time, I, too, owned Chevelle SS 396s. I ordered and purchased new a 1966 with L-34/M-21 and a 1968 with L-78/M-22. I can tell you, for certain, that neither of these cars had a 45 rpm record included with it at time of delivery. Of course, that doesn't mean that a 1965 Corvette with L-78 did not. However, I don't think so.
Besides everything else, I never heard a song about a 396 in the 60s (although I have heard mention of it in a fairly recent recording). If such a song ever existed, I would expect that it would have been "around" and not limited to those few folks that purchased a new 1965 Corvette with L-78.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Now that's interesting! I'm a BIG Paul Revere and the Raiders fan and I've yet to hear that one. I'm going to have to find that recording and add it to my collection. Paul Revere is now about 68 years old and he's still going strong. I go to their shows whenever I can make them. He usually describes the group as a "used rock band". They may be "used" but NO ONE does it better. Period.
Paul is also an organizer of the annual "Ride to the Wall" that occurs over the memorial day weekend. It's a fund raiser and tribute to Viet Nam veterans. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Good idea it was a promo,
I saw Paul Revere and the Raiders last year at the NSRA nationals in Louisville and have to say it was some of the more entertaining two hours I have spent at any car show. The guy is amazing with the energy he still puts into his shows. Everyone should see him at least once!- Top
