Re: and it is not going to get better

joe i am 71 years old and have owned new 59,62,63 SWC,64, 65 396 and a 66 427 corvettes and i have no desire to own one now. every body says to me "don't you wish you had them back" and i reply they were great cars in their days but compared to my 2005 C-6 there is no way i would trade. i go on road tours with my corvette club and i am the guy who has to help keep running the older vettes driven by my fellow club members. i am past the "get out and get under stage" of my life i just want to enjoy driving my corvette with the A/C on the CD playing the toons and watching the scenery go by with mrs clem by my side.

Re: and it is not going to get better

      Hi!

I think this is a very interesting topic. I feel it is the responsibilities of all Corvette owners to share our cars with the younger generations. I have restored my 61-270HP and when I get a chance to let a young person sit in it at a cruise or show, I jump at it. The look on their face is worth it. I also feel that our cars need to be driven. I have restored it once and if need be I will do it again, at least I will not have to find the correct date coded parts again. I do not have to worry where my cars will end up when the daisies are growing above me, my son has (age 30) already laid claim.

Roy, I saw a 55 at the Dairy Queen in Santa Rosa yesterday but couldn't stop to ogle it. Was that you? It seemed to be the right color but did not see the bubble top in the quick glance I was able to take.

I agree Ray, I took my 66 427 out the other day and taught my friend's daughter to drive a stick shift in it. What easier car to drive than the torque monster. what better way to pass on the bug than to get in the seat. When we got back to her house there was a gaggle of her friends there and they all had to take a ride. Nothing simpler.

            At 71 years young,

at least you don't have take offense when someone sees you in an old Corvette and asks if you bought it new. I am 43 and my 1961 is 44 yrs old. Several times I have had people ask if I bought it new. Either they are not thinking before they ask the question or I have been rode hard and put up wet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but

I'm pretty sure Mike Hammer's car was a 54, and the script said it was "hopped up". There was one scene where he opened the hood to check for explosives. Made me wince when he slammed it shut! After seeing that film, my Dad thought about painting his 54 black to match it, then saw one, and realized the film car musta had a LOT of bodywork, because the typical 54 was way too wavy to look good in black.

                  Re: You are probably right.

Believe it or not, my wife did not call me in to see the car untill after the bomb sceen. The oldest vette I have owned is a 59, so I cant say I know the differance between a 54 and a 55.
