    C3 Vacuum Hose Replacement

I'm replacing the vacuum hoses on my '69 and I've read that the tee fittings are taped in a way designed to hold them onto the tee. What size and brand of filament tape is available today that would match or be similar to the tape used in '69?

Any current clear/filamented tape from the hardware store will get the job done for you. But, what's off-the-shelf is used for packaging and you need to cut the width done to approximately 3/8-inch for it to look correct on the Judging Field.

3M does make this tape in 9mm width which is about 3/8". Its official name is
Scotch® Filament Tape 897 Clear, 9 mm x 55 m. When I find a non-bulk source for it, I'll post it. Hopefully someone else will beat me to it.

            C3 Vacuum Hose tape

            Big John,

In the use that Pat asked about, there is usually none on a 1972. Pat has a 1969, so the above answers were directed to his situation. The filament tape is used in 1969 and part of 1970 – maybe some 1968s as well, especially later ones.

During 1968-1972 some of the vacuum hoses were wrapped with a black textured tape to keep them together prior to installation on the car, and to keep then neatly organized while on the car. The amount and location of this tape varied through out the production run as the vacuum hoses changed configuration. An exact duplicate of this tape is hard to come by, and the best example for amount and location is the car itself.
            Terry

Re: C3 Vacuum Hose Replacement - Found Supplier

I found a supplier for the tape you mentioned, and they sell it by the roll:

Is the tape that supplier sells used for the 69, or John's 72?
I think it is the type for the original question. If so, does
anyone have a sorce for the black fliament type for john's 72?
                Thanks Big John

The clear filament tape was used on early Shark cars to retain the vac filter and check valve. This was dropped for later cars, 1970, if memory serves.

The black tape, which is a form of cloth 'friction' tape, was used to secure individual vac hoses together as an assy. I remember it being the discussion of a thread several years ago where one poster did some research and provided a link to a source for the tape.

Since I have a small roll of that tape in WIDE format (none for sale), I didn't bother to follow-up on the recommended source that was given.... You can also find the same black cloth tape used in Chevy passenger cars of the era holding electrical wiring harness's together (NOT the wrap around a given harness, but used to bind two separate wiring harness's together between routing clips) in weather protected places like the trunk.

That's where I originally went to get replacement(s) for the underhood tape used in my '71 that were too heavily aged/weathered. Later, I stumbled across a small roll of the same tape in wide format (about three inches) and acquired a 'lifetime' supply for my car....

My late-build (July 20, 1970) Corvette had the clear filament tape at the vacuum hose connections. 100% of black filament tape must have been later in '70 or more likely in '71 MY.
