    Route 66 TV Show...

Did the boys ever drive a midyear? I read where they got a new car every year and the show ended during the '63-'64 season. I only remember them driving a C1.

I do recall them driving a C2. Don't recall the year though.

Found a pic. Hard to tell but the hubcap looks like a 63.

I have a video of one of their last broadcasts. They are driving a '63.

This subject was discussed some time ago and the opinion was the series ended with a 1963 coupe.

I saw a couple of the last shows and they were driving a 63 coupe. I thought it was silver blue in color. john

Route 66 ran from Fall 1960 to Spring 1964. The car used in the pilot episode was a light (Horizon Blue?)blue 60. When the show was picked up by the network, the 61 model was used. The new car was fawn beige. With Chevrolet being the show's primary sponsor, the boys got a new corvette convertible each year of the show...always fawn beige (61-62) or saddle tan (63-64). Tan looked better in Black and White film than a red car. Tod Stiles (Martin Milner)drove a 64 convertible the last season of the show. By then, Buz Murdock (George Maharis)was gone and Linc Case (Glen Corbet), a Viet Nam vet, was Tod's travel partner. The last episode was a two-parter filmed in Tampa. Barbara Eden co-starred as Tod's fiance. That's how the show ended with Linc hitting the road solo and Tod getting married to "Jeanie".

The show was available a while back on vhs from Columbia House, some are on e-bay from time to time. There is also a guy that has all episodes on tape or DVD (http://www.htp-online.net/excelltd/otherepisodes.htm). Most of these were taped from the Nick at Night run several years ago, but the ones I've seen are good quality.

The last 64 car was actually a 63 with some 64 treatments. Either a pre- production prototype or a car modified to look like the new 64.

I have never heard that before. Why would Chevrolet have trouble providing a real 64 Corvette for a show they sponsor? Seatbacks, hood and hubcaps are definitely 64.
