Re: C3 '69 Headlamp Assemblies
I'm virtually certain that area should be body color; the headlight doors would have been painted on the car with the bezels painted separately. But, I don't remember the overspray ending sharply at the edge like that...I would be very surprised to learn they masked the sides of bucket mounting area.
Is the paint code on the trim plate "972"? I suspect the car was originally a white car...otherwise, it's been repainted twice.- Top

No, it was originally 980 Riverside Gold, then it was painted white and lastly the blue you see today. It would make sense to paint this area since it's visible when the headlights are up. I'll probably go back to Riverside Gold for judging purposes.- Top

Re: C3 '69 Headlamp Assemblies
When you strip the white, you will find the RG underneath...or maybe the RG will be under repaint primer depending on the painter's work ethic. Also, examine the hidden side areas of the headlight door for RG overspray...that will confirm how the factory did the painting.
The headlight doors will have green zinc chromate primer on the aluminum, primarily on the top surface, but with ZC overspray on areas under the top surface. You will find the doors will also have red and gray factory primer overspray over the ZC overspray underneath...the underside of the doors will generally be a mess paintwise.- Top
